Hofstra Professor To Compete In Jeopardy! Tournament

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Hofstra University writing professor will be one of the first contestants in the new Professors Tournament on Jeopardy!

Dr. Lisa Dresner, an associate professor of writing studies at Hofstra, is going to be on the famous quiz show's first Professors Tournament, which begins on Dec. 6. According to the Jeopardy! website, Dresner will be competing on Dec. 8 against Sam Buttery, an associate professor of operations research at the Naval Postgraduate School in California, and Ashleigh Lawrence-Sanders, assistant professor of U.S. and African-American history at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

In addition to writing, Dresner is also the head of Hofstra's LGBTQ+ Studies Program. She is the author of "The Female Investigator in Literature, Film, and Popular Culture." Her bio on the Hofstra website says that she often teaches writing studies and rhetoric, as well as LGBT studies and women's studies classes. She is also a trumpet player in the Lesbian and Gay Big Apple Corps symphonic and marching bands. She has been teaching at Hofstra since 2004.

Dresner is competing for a top prize of $100,000. The winner will also earn a spot in the Jeopardy! tournament of champions. The tournament will be hosted by Mayim Bialik.
