Introducing the Class of 2013 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Shannon Carman and Jacquelyn Seskin will present commencement speeches at this year's graduation ceremony.

Congratulations to Garden City High School’s Class of 2013 valedictorian Shannon Carman and salutatorian Jacquelyn Seskin for distinguishing themselves as the top scholars of their class.

Valedictorian
Shannon Carman achieved a GPA of 101.16 for seven semesters. Highlights of her high school achievements include being named a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar with Honor, placing above the 95th percentile in the National Spanish Exam, receiving a silver medal in the Long Island Math Fair, being a member of the first place regional finalist “Chemagination” team, winning the Dartmouth Alumni Book Club Award and the American Chemical Society Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in High School Chemistry.

She was also co-captain of the varsity badminton team for the past two years. Shannon is currently deciding her college choice for the fall.

Salutatorian
Jacquelyn Seskin achieved a 100.98 seven-semester GPA, and has selected to attend Dartmouth College in the fall. She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an AP Scholar with Honor and has won multiple gold and silver medals on the National Spanish Exam.

Jacquelyn won The Stonehill College Book Award for Excellence and Commitment to School and Community, the Long Island Science Education Leadership Association Award for Outstanding Achievement and has served as the varsity volleyball captain, receiving the Nassau County Volleyball Coaches’ Association Scholar Athlete award in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

As the top academic achievers of the Class of 2013, Shannon and Jacquelyn will be presenting commencement speeches at this year’s graduation ceremony to be held Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. on Warren King Field.
