Letter to the Editor: 'Kudos to EPOA Trustee Nick Episcopia'

Long-time Garden City resident applauds EPOA trustee for committing to St. Paul's repairs.

Dear Editor:

I attended the June 4 Annual Public EPOA Joint Meeting and want to commend  Mr. Nick Episcopia, EPOA Trustee, for committing to have reasonable repairs made to St. Paul’s.

Mr. Episcopia went on to say that a survey would be done for uses of but the survey may take two or three years.

My concern is that the building would further deteriorate by neglect without positive action to provide reasonable maintenance and repairs.  Over the past 20 years since St. Paul’s closed as a private school, Garden City residents have voted twice not to demolish the building but rather to make use of it as a benefit to the community.

The  historic value of the structure adds so much to our town profile and property value.  The hundreds of children playing on the fields, and in the playground, support the family community image that Garden City enjoys.

I am so proud to be a resident of Garden City for the past 32 years, and for my children to have received a wonderful education that prepared them for college and careers.  Part of my pride comes from the appreciation of the vision of A.T. Stewart and the founding families of this Village.
