Library Launches 'Title Swap with the Librarians' Series

The Garden City Public Library launched a new reader’s advisory series of programs for adults “Title Swap with the Librarians” on Tuesday, May 7.

Reference Librarians Laura Flanagan and Ann Garnett presented new titles and series to read and the patrons, in turn, shared titles that they recently read and recommended.

The librarians also discussed several genres, including historical fiction, thrillers and mysteries, and offered read-a-likes for the popular novel Gone Girl and the classic The Great Gatsby.

Handouts about the books discussed were prepared for the participants and are available for all at the Reference Desk. In addition, the librarians introduced the participants to two reader’s advisory electronic resources that are available through the library - Book News and NoveList.

Book News offers patrons the opportunity to read online or subscribe by email to monthly newsletters for a variety of genres as well as to receive “New Book Alerts.”

NoveList has a database of 200,000 fiction and nonfiction titles and offers patrons the opportunity to read full-text reviews and descriptions and find read-a-likes for favorite authors or types of books.

More information about these databases is available at the Reference Desk or online. Click on databases, then select “books” and then click on the icons for Book News or NoveList.

The second meeting of the “Title Swap with the Librarians” series will be held on Tuesday, June 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the small meeting room on the lower level of the library. All are welcome. No registration is required.
