Man With 10 License Suspensions Charged With DWI: Garden City PD

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 12.

Oct. 6

  • Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue for a report of a truck striking the railroad bridge. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs. No injuries were reported.
  • Officers investigated a report of multiple unauthorized bank accounts opened using another person’s identity.
  • Officers investigated a report of multiple unauthorized ATM withdrawals against a person’s debit card account.
  • Officers investigated a report of a pick-up truck fleeing the scene after striking another vehicle on Franklin Avenue.
  • A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed in a school zone.

  • A package was reported stolen from a Fairmount Boulevard porch.
  • A commercial company was cited for the operation of a truck on Washington Avenue while 10,000 pounds overweight.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a fire alarm at a Ring Road building and determined the cause to be excess oven smoke.

Oct. 8

  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation, speeding and improper license plates.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle being keyed on both sides while parked in Field 7N.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be an issue with the sprinkler system.
  • A resident’s identity was stolen and used to file false FEMA claims.
  • A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration.
  • During a truck inspection checkpoint on Clinton Road, six trucks were inspected of which four were placed out of service. Officers issued 58 tickets for various traffic and safety violations, including three overweight violations, six Haz-Mat violations, and five unsecured load violations.

  • A vehicle was stopped for passing a red traffic light on Washington Avenue at Meadow Street. Upon investigation, the 26-year-old driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license due to a prior DWI, 10 additional license suspensions, and disregarding a traffic light signal.
  • Police investigated a report of a broken parking garage security gate on the Adelphi University campus.
  • Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for the Garden City Homecoming Fair and Parade.

Oct. 10

  • Several concrete slate pavers were reported stolen from a Pell Terrace property.
  • Police and firefighters responded to two residences for fire alarm activations and determined both were activated by excess oven smoke.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and defective brake lights.
  • Surveillance cameras depicted a suspicious incident where a woman and man with bikes walked up the side of a Pell Terrace residence. No other activity was reported.

Oct. 11

  • A delivery van with two occupants struck the Chestnut Street train bridge. The top of the van was damaged. Both occupants were injured and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
  • A business reports harassing emails and text messages were sent to their Franklin Avenue office.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

Oct. 12

  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 32-year-old woman for transferring money from her company’s account onto her credit card account on two separate occasions. She was charged with grand larceny.
  • Officers responded to a Franklin Avenue commercial building to investigate a report of a burglary. Three offices were entered, and multiple items were stolen. In addition, a safe was thrown from an office window onto the outside pavement. Surveillance cameras show a man using an unknown tool to enter the building.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into and damaging a NICE bus on Franklin Avenue.
  • A truck with a hydraulic tower struck the Cherry Valley train trestle. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
