Man With 24 License Suspensions Arrested: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 26.
Oct. 20
- Officers responded to Franklin Avenue where the driver of a vehicle stopped in traffic was found unconscious. The 23-year-old was arrested for DWI.
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation, officers arrested a 57-year-old man for intentionally damaging the property of another family member. He was charged with criminal mischief.
- Upon investigation of a speeding car on Clinton Road, Officers arrested a 21-year-old male for a Suffolk County criminal trespass warrant, driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- As a result of the department’s Drug Take Back Program, officers destroyed 280 pounds of collected medications and drugs.
- Officers assisted Nassau police with the search for a man with a knife on Old Country Road who had just committed an assault in Roosevelt Field Mall. He was located and arrested behind the 1-800-Flowers building.
- Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for a fire alarm and determined the cause was an accidental activation of the kitchen’s fire suppressant system.

- A resident’s personal information was used to open an unauthorized credit card account.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with reckless driving and excessive speed.
- Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a demonstration held at Garden City Plaza.
Oct. 22
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation, officers arrested a 51-year-old man for violating an order of protection and endangering the welfare of a child.
- A Franklin Avenue bank reported two people fraudulently used false information to obtain a $75,000 loan.
- Officers investigated a report of a gray sedan leaving the scene after colliding into a NICE Bus on Clinton Road.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and obstructing traffic.

- In a joint effort, the Garden City Police Department and Adelphi University Public Safety both participated in the National DEA Drug Take Back Day Event resulting in the collection of 150 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired medications.
- Officers responded to a residence for a report of a burglary in progress and determined the subjects were contractors for the home.
- Flowers were reported stolen from the front yard of a Roosevelt Street residence.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be shower steam.
- Firefighters and officers responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a revoked registration and excessive speed.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and operating a cell phone.
Oct. 24
- Credit cards were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a New Hyde Park Road driveway.
- A driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and illegally tinted windows.
Oct. 25
- Officers arrested a 48-year-old man for the theft of several items from CVS Pharmacy.
- Money and credit cards were reportedly removed from a vehicle parked on 3rd Street in the vicinity of the tennis courts.
- Officers observed and monitored a demonstration being held on 7th Street.
- A driver in the vicinity of the middle school was charged with driving with a suspended registration and two unsafe lane usage violations.
- A motorcyclist in the vicinity of the middle school was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without required equipment.
- A resident received a call from a person claiming to be from UNICEF. The resident realized it was a scam when the caller started asking for personal information.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper/switched license plates.
Oct. 26
- Officers arrested a 33-year-old man on Merillon Avenue and Whitehall Boulevard for driving with 24 license suspensions, driving with a suspended registration and unsafe lane usage.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty smoke detector.
