GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 22.
March 16
- Officers responded to the Nassau Boulevard train crossing for a railroad gate malfunction.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue and 4th Street was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
- A vehicle parked in Parking Field 11 was reportedly damaged by unknown means.
March 17

- A business reported a fraudulent transfer of money from the company’s bank account.
- Multiple unauthorized purchases were reportedly made against a victim’s credit card account at a local store.
- A 24-year-old driver on Stewart Avenue was arrested for six license suspensions, a suspended registration, and a forged inspection sticker.
March 18
- Officers responded to a report of two people fleeing the scene in a dark colored SUV after attempting to steal a car from the Garden City Golf Club. During a search of the area, a detective spotted the car in the Cherry Valley Club parking field. The car then fled the scene at a high rate of speed into Hempstead. Hempstead and Nassau County police assisted with the search, but the car wasn't found. The investigation is ongoing.
- While patrolling Clinton Road, an officer discovered a vehicle had crashed into a tree. The 34-year-old driver was arrested for DWI, unregistered vehicle, and uninsured operation.
- Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be overcooked food.
- A vehicle parked in Parking Field 9E was found damaged.
- A driver on Old Country Road was arrested for driving with eight license suspensions and defective brake lights.
- Someone person opened a fraudulent credit card account using the identity of a victim.
March 19

- A commercial vehicle was stopped in traffic on Cherry Valley Avenue due to its height exceeding the upcoming train trestle. The driver was charged with impeding traffic and disregarding bridge clearance signs.
- Officers responded to Wyatt Road for a water line break.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
March 20
- Officers responded to a 9th Street residence for a report of a man trespassing on the property, exposing himself, and committing a lewd act. He was apprehended and charged with public lewdness, exposure of a person, and trespass.
- Garden City detectives arrested a 21-year-old man for cashing a fraudulent check for more than $14,000. He was charged with identity theft, grand larceny, and possession of a forged instrument. A second subject, a 20-year-old man, was arrested for this incident on March 21 and charged with two counts of grand larceny.
March 21
- A Range Rover was reported stolen from a 4th Street driveway. The vehicle was recovered in New Jersey. The incident appears to be related to multiple nearby vehicle thefts in Nassau County. The investigation is ongoing.
- An unauthorized credit card account was opened in a victim’s name and was used to make unauthorized purchases.
- Loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Weyford Terrace.
- A dump-truck struck the Cherry Valley Avenue overpass. The driver was charged with exceeding height clearance signs.
- A driver in the vicinity of the Garden City High School was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
- Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Adams Street.
- Officers and firefighters responded to Garden City Plaza for people stuck in an elevator. Upon arrival, it was determined that all occupants had exited the elevator prior to the arrival of emergency service units.
- Officers investigated a report of two people leaving a Franklin Avenue restaurant without paying for their bill.
March 22
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Eton Road, Officers arrested a 48-year-old man as a fugitive from justice due to two outstanding Pennsylvania warrants for fraud by deception and prohibited gambling acts. He was also charged with three driver license suspensions, no license plates on vehicle, and unregistered vehicle.
- Officers investigated a report of a man checking car door handles on Cherry Valley Avenue.
- A driver on Cambridge Avenue was charged with passing a stop sign, suspended license, and suspended registration.
- A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
