Multiple Dangerous Drivers Arrested: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 19.
Oct. 13
- Two drivers on Rockaway Avenue were charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed in a school zone.
- Officers investigated a report of a man punching another man in the face on the platform of the Garden City Railroad Station. The subject fled the scene. No injuries were reported.
- A resident said someone tried to used his identity without authorization to purchase a vehicle.
- A truck driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs after crashing into the Cherry Valley Avenue Trestle.

- A New Jersey company was charged with operating a truck on Commercial Avenue while 30,000 pounds overweight.
- A driver on Commercial Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation, speeding and aggressive driving violations.
- Items were reported stolen from a package delivered to a Euston Road residence.
- Police investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on the Adelphi University campus.
Oct. 15
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into a vehicle parked at a local golf club.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- A company was charged with the operation of a truck on New Hyde Park Road with defective brakes, a defective suspension and a loose chassis.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- Officers located a suspicious cooler bag on a Washington Avenue sidewalk. Upon investigation, the item was determined to be rubbish and was disposed of.
- Officers responded to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Stewart Avenue where two motorcycles collided with a SUV. The driver of one of the motorcycles was transported to a local hospital with multiple injuries. Both motorcycle operators were charged with unregistered and uninsured operation.

- A driver on Main Street said she was in a collision with another vehicle that fled the scene on Franklin Avenue.
- Police and firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an Adelphi University dorm and determined the cause to be shower steam.
- Officers responded to 7th Street for a report of a handbag theft. Upon investigation, it was determined the handbag was accidentally left in another vehicle and not stolen.
Oct. 17
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Whitehall Boulevard, officers arrested a 52-year-old man for an outstanding Nassau County warrant for resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license, improper license plates and unsafe turn.
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation, officers arrested a 72-year-old man for harassing another family member and prohibiting her from calling 911.
- Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm activation and determined the cause to be a faulty alarm.
Oct. 18
- Police investigated an identity theft report where unauthorized credit card accounts were opened in a resident’s name. In addition, there was an attempt to change the resident’s mailing address with the US Postal Service.
- Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm activation and determined the cause to be construction dust.
- A driver in the vicinity of Garden City High School was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration and excessive speed in a school zone.
- A driver on Wetherill Road was charged with unlicensed operation, excessive speed and inadequate muffler.
Oct. 19
- A man was seen on surveillance cameras walking up an Avalon Road driveway checking cars.
- A woman was seen on surveillance cameras removing a tip jar containing $20 from a 7th Street restaurant.
- A resident reported his identity was used without authorization to open a credit card account.
- A driver on Oxford Boulevard was charged with driving with a suspended license, tinted windows and improper plates.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking a postal vehicle on Merillon Avenue.
