Nassau Police Find Missing Infant Boy, Mother

Police say the mother may have taken her child to Virginia. Do you know where they are?

UPDATE: Nassau County police say both Diego Sierra-Flores and Yansis Sierra-Mejia have been found.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police are searching for a woman and her infant child, who have been missing since the start of the month.

According to police, 1-year-old Diego Sierra-Flores was last seen at his home in Hempstead at 5:30 a.m. on April 1, and was reported missing on April 6. Police say he is likely with his mother, 25-year-old Yansis Sierra-Mejia.

Diego is a Hispanic boy, 2 feet tall and about 25 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Yansis Sierra-Mejia is a Hispanic woman, 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police do not know what clothes the two were wearing.

Police say Yansis may have taken her son to Virginia.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two is asked to call the Nassau County Police Department's Missing Persons Squad at 516-573-7347, or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
