On Friday, April 5 Nassau Community College will present a conference for educators entitled “Unlocking Potential: Reaching and Teaching Our Diverse Student Populations.”
The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the College Center Building.
This conference is the second annual Unlocking Potential conference, which each year targets different student populations and suggests strategies to meet their educational needs. This year, several experts will discuss effective methods for teaching K-12 and post-secondary students with communication-related and psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Jane Brown Thierfeld from the University of Connecticut will talk about the autism spectrum. Adelphi professor Susan Cuoccio will discuss classroom management techniques for students on the spectrum. Dr. Alan Cohen from the North Shore Long Island Jewish System will speak about mood and anxiety disorders. Finally, social worker Bonnie Hoffman and a panel of Nassau Community College student veterans will discuss Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Registration for “Unlocking Potential: Reaching and Teaching Our Diverse Student Populations” is $12 per person.
