Nearby: SUV Crashes on Jericho Turnpike Friday Afternoon

Members of the Mineola Fire Department responded to a car accident involving an SUV Friday afternoon near the entrance to Jericho Terrace at about 12:31 p.m.

According to Mineola Fire Chief Joseph Pratt, the female driver of the SUV was traveling east on Jericho Turnpike when she hit a fire hydrant, telephone pole and street sign before bouncing off the light stanchion by the entrance into the 7-Eleven parking lot, coming to a rest in the east bound lanes of Jericho Turnpike during the height of the noon rush hour.

The driver was taken to Winthrop-University Hospital by members of the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. for observation.

There were no other injuries reported.
