Woman Struck And Killed By Garbage Truck On LI: Police

CARLE PLACE, NY — A woman, walking across Old Country Road, was struck and killed by a garbage truck early Friday, Nassau police said.

The 21-year-old victim was near Glen Cove Road at 5:30 a.m. when the truck, heading eastbound on Old Country Road, hit the woman, authorities said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene with a catastrophic injury to her head and body, police said.

The road was closed for several hours.

There were no other injuries and the truck driver remained at the scene, police said.

Police are investigating.
