Spanish Students Compete at Hofstra

Garden City High School students in Dr. Christina Failla’s and Ms. Nora Artibee’s Spanish 4 classes, and Mr. Peter Berg’s Spanish 2 classes competed on April 25 in Hofstra University’s “Concurso Anual de Poesía” against other New York high school students.

Catherine Chu, a student in Mr. Berg’s class, won third place for Level 2. Kathleen Beatty and Collier Curran also participated for Level 2 in Mr. Berg’s class.

The following students of Dr. Failla and Ms. Artibee performed beautifully and received certificates of participation as well as praise from the judges for their impressive performances: Nayeem Baksh, James Lark, Patric Martin, Albert Soussis, and Christopher Stumpf, Seung Hyuk Choi and Daniel McElroy.

Caitlin Gallant, a student of Ms. Artibee, recited an original poem which she wrote. Students performed and recited the poetry of Pablo Neruda, Antonio Machado, Garcilaso de la Vega and Francisco de Quevedo.
