Woman, 83, Struck On Long Island Roadway Saturday Dies: Police
She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead by a physician assistant, Nassau police said.
WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — The 83-year-old woman who was struck while crossing Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead on Saturday afternoon has died, Nassau police said.
Clytee Felder-Knight, of Hempstead, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead by a physician assistant, according to police.
She had been walking eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike crossing Nassau Boulevard when she was struck by a 2016 Dodge Ram, which was driven by a 36-year-old man, as it made a left-hand turn onto Nassau Boulevard at around 3:30 p.m., police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she is currently listed in serious condition, police said.
The driver remained at the scene and no other injuries were reported, according to police.

Debris, including papers, could be seen in the roadway, following the crash. Traffic was slowed around the intersection, and that continued along Hempstead Turnpike into Hempstead as police investigated the crash scene.
The roadway was closed for about four and a half hours.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
