Woman And 9-Year-Old Stabbed With Kitchen Knife: Police

A Uniondale man faces multiple charges including attempted murder, police say.

UNIONDALE, NY — A Uniondale man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, police said.

Patch is not releasing the man's name, to protect the identity of the woman and child.

The man, 45, got into an argument with a woman on Tuesday night. He grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed her several times in the face on her hands, police said.

As a 9-year-old girl attempted to stop the attack, he punched the girl on her head, police said.

She was also cut on the hands.

The 9-year-old and 39-year-old fled the home and called 911, police said.

Officers responded and heard the 39-year-old woman screaming for help. The man was spotted in a hallway holding a knife covered in blood. He refused to drop the weapon and officers were eventually able to subdue him, authorities said.

Both the woman and child were brought to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment and are in stable condition.

The man was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
