GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending March 15.
March 7
- Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Westbury Road.

- At 11 p.m., a vehicle on Franklin Avenue was stopped due to the headlights not being on and impeding traffic. It was determined the driver, a 34-year-old woman, was driving while intoxicated with an 11-year-old passenger in the vehicle. She was arrested and charged with felony DWI (Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of an open alcoholic beverage, impeding traffic, and headlamps not activated.
- Firefighters and officers responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
- The IRS advised a resident that someone used her identity without permission to file a fraudulent tax return.
March 10
- A truck driver on St. James St. South was charged with driving in a “No Commercial Vehicle” zone and a suspended license.
- Police investigated a report of lost or stolen licenses plates on Old Country Road.
- A driver on St. James St. South was charged with passing a Stop sign and driving with a suspended license.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with two license suspensions and improper license plates.
March 11

- A vehicle was stolen from the Garden City Golf Club.
- Police investigated a report of an unauthorized transaction against a person’s online bank account.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper lane use.
- A vehicle parked on Railroad Avenue was damaged.
March 12
- As a result of winter storm related conditions on March 12 and 13, officers responded to 18 calls for service, including five traffic light malfunctions, six alarms, four accidents, two fire calls and a tree limb down.
March 13
- An officer discovered graffiti on a mailbox in Parking Field 6.
- Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty detector.
- A driver on Hilton Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and unregistered vehicle.
March 14
- Officers investigated a report of a black SUV leaving the scene after sideswiping another vehicle on New Hyde Park Road.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue West was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by hair spray.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and operating a handheld device.
March 15
- After receiving a message on her computer that her account was frozen, a woman called the number provided and was instructed to purchase gift cards and provide their security codes to fix the issue. It was later determined to be a scam.
- Officers responded to the Hilton Avenue train crossing for a railroad gate malfunction.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be construction.
- A vehicle reportedly suffered minor damage while parked at a Franklin Avenue medical center.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- A driver on Hilton Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
