Gowanus Autobody Shop To Become 4-Floor Office Building
Developers want to add four floors to the former autobody shop at 288 Fourth Ave. building for offices and a medical facility.

GOWANUS, NY — A former autobody shop on Fourth Avenue could have four-floors added to it and turn into an office building under plans filed to the city, according to the local community board.
A developer filed plans last year to add the floors to 288 Fourth Ave., between First Street and Garfield Place, to turn it into offices and a medical facility with 25 parking spaces, according to the plans.
The proposal went in front of Community Board 6 at their Wednesday night meeting because the developer needs approval from the city to cut back the number of parking spots from the required 50 under the current zoning laws for the neighborhood. The board unanimously voted in favor of the plans.

The estimated $1.1 million conversion of the building will leave it with space for three offices, with one planned to be occupied by a doctor, according to the board and city records.
