Red Hook Stationary Shop Foxy & Winston Closes After 9 Years
The 392 Van Brunt St. shop, which sold custom stationery and home goods, closed its doors over the weekend after slumping sales.

RED HOOK, NY — A longtime Van Brunt Street shop, which sold home goods and custom stationary on Van Brunt Street, closed its doors over the weekend after years of slumping sales.
Foxy & Winston, which has been at 392 Van Brunt St. for nine years, shuttered on Sunday because sales have been declining for two years, said owner Jane Buck.
"Rising rents drove out my base customers and replaced it with people who didn’t shop at my store," said Buck. "It only takes one lame Christmas to put a small business like mine out of business."

While the retail end of the store will cease, Buck plans to continue sell her custom stationary and wedding invitations on her online store based out of upstate New York, where she recently relocated to from Red Hook.
Foxy & Winston was started in 2005 by Buck and she later opened her Van Brunt Street shop and studio in 2009. The shop was named the best letterpress printer in the city by New York Magazine in 2012.

However, sales started to decline in 2015 and never recovered to keep the doors open, so Buck decided to close it for good six weeks ago.
Foxy & Winston is the latest of several businesses along Van Brunt Street to close this year, including famed dive bar Red Hook Bait & Tackle that closed in January.
