UPS Buys $303 Million Site In Red Hook Waterfront

The company might use the space to expand its "ground network" in the Northeast.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — A large UPS facility might be coming to Red Hook's waterfront. The company bought $303 million worth of industrial properties last week, property records show.

Paperwork for the deal, which closed last week, was officially filed on Christmas Eve, records show. It will include five street addresses along Sullivan Street, Coffey Street and Ferris Street that make up a 350,000-square-foot complex, according to the Commercial Observer.

UPS said that the new space is part of an effort to expand its facilities and meet growing customer demand.

“The Brooklyn, NY property is one of the locations UPS is considering to further optimize our ground network across the Northeast," said Matthew O’Connor, UPS spokesperson, in an email. "The property acquisition is one of many initial steps in the feasibility and planning process for the proposed project.”

The company had previously signed a lease for the space last fall, records show. The Real Deal reported at the time that the lease was part of 1.7 million square feet of space UPS had leased out in Brooklyn and Queens.

The Brooklyn space specifically gives the company 1.2 million square feet of room fro new construction.

It was previously owned by Sitex, which bought the space for $110 million after an Italian-based company's plan to turn it into office space was abandoned last year, TRD said.

UPS declined to comment further on its plans for the space.
