Second Boy Accuses Walmart Employee Arrested on Sex Abuse Charge of Molesting, Raping Him
A Walmart employee accused of sexually abusing a 5-year-old boy in a bathroom at the Islandia store last month is facing life in prison after a second alleged victim came forward with similar allegations. 

Matthew S. Bulmer, a 22-year-old Islip Terrace man, repeatedly sexually abused a boy for six years until he was arrested on the Walmart case on Oct. 19, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.


Resolution Calls on County to End Contract with Homeless Shelter

A resolution being introduced by Suffolk Legis. John M. Kennedy Jr. says that a homeless shelter in Hauppauge is exceeding the amount of families it is allowed to house and is asking that the contract between the county and the shelter’s operator be terminated.

Resolution 1817 will be presented at the County Legislature’s Human Services Committee meeting on Friday and states that the shelter currently houses 96 families, “a capacity far in excess of” the maximum established by the county code. The resolution asks that the contract between Suffolk County and Community Housing Initiatives, the shelter’s operator to be terminated. 

Islip Town Taps Bayport Resident as New Planning Chief
A Bayport resident is now Islip Town Planning Commissioner after the town council ousted Dave Genaway Thursday night during its budget hearing.

Richard Zapolski, who has served deputy planning commissioner since hired in January, 2012, is replacing Genaway who was appointed by former Democratic Town Supervisor Phil Nola. 


Town Board Approves Zoning Change for Downtown on Main Apartments
A plan to build more than 50 apartments on Smithtown Main Street has moved one step closer to becoming a reality. 

Smithtown Town Board voted unanimously to lift building restrictions on the former Nassau-Suffolk lumberyard for a mixed-use development in exchange for the developer's agreement raze the existing building by next spring at their Tuesday afternoon meeting. 

Cilmi Wins 10th Leg. Seat Unopposed

Incumbent Tom Cilmi, R-Bay Shore, won his unopposed election for the Suffolk County legislator of the 10th district, according to the Suffolk Board of Elections.

Cilmi won 99.57 percent and 7,343 votes to 31 write-in ballots.

Nowick, McCarthy Win Seats on Smithtown Town Board, Malloy Falls Short
Lynne Nowick will follow in her father's footsteps by serving on Smithtown Town Board alongside re-elected Thomas McCarthy. 

Republican Lynne Nowick, R-St. James, has won herself a seat on Smithtown Town Board with 10,516 votes on Tuesday night, and will make the transition from serving Suffolk County Legislature's 13th district to the Town of Smithtown. She will take the place of serving Councilman Kevin Malloy, running as a Conservative, who only received 4,519 votes. 

Kennedy Wins in 12th District
Suffolk County Legislator John Kennedy won a fifth term on Tuesday, ousting Democratic challenger Gary Jacobs with more than 72 percent of the vote with all but three precincts reporting.

Kennedy, who first took office after a special election in 2004, is a member of the legislature's health committee, ways and means committee and public safety committee. He also leads the Republican caucus.

Vecchio's Reign as Supervisor Continues in Smithtown
Vecchio has won enough votes to  further extend his reign as New York's longest-serving town supervisor. 

Republican incumbent Patrick Vecchio has won the 2014 election for Town of Smithtown supervisor with 8,805 votes, over his Conservative challenger, Councilman Robert Creighton with 5,930 votes, and Democratic candidate Steven Snair with 4,783 votes with 89 out of 93 districts reporting, according to Suffolk County Board of Elections at 10:27 p.m.
