'Alley Oop For Autism' Fundraiser In Jericho

More than 1,000 people are expected to participate in the cause.

More than 1,000 people from across Long Island are expected to participate in the 12th annual "Alley Oop For Autism" fundraiser at Jericho High School (99 Cedar Swamp Road) on Saturday, March 24th from Noon-6:30 PM.

The multitude of teams include both boys and girls divisions ranging from small children to adults. This year, Alley Oop for Autism will surpass the $1 million mark in total funds raised since 2007.

Professional athletes and other sports celebrities are known to make appearances at the event. Special guests have included ESPN analyst Adam Schefter, former NBA star and current MSG studio analyst Wally Szczerbiak, former NFL star and current CBS radio host and NFL color commentator Boomer Esiason, and New York Giants football star Jay Bromley, among others.

Spectators pay $5, and three-to-five person teams pay $40 per player to compete in a minimum of three 10 minute games.

“Alley Oop For Autism” was created by Justin Resnick when he was a junior at Jericho High School. Justin went on to play basketball at Emory University. Today, he is an associate at Houlihan Lokey, a leading middle-market investment bank. “I continue to be amazed by the enthusiastic outpouring of community support for this event,” Justin describes. “Over the past twelve years, we are proud to say that we have been able to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families dealing with autism. I am extremely grateful for all of the money, time, and effort invested by everyone who has been involved with the event over the past twelve years.” The event is also planned by a committee that includes:

  • Justin’s sister Marissa, a former Emory University basketball player and current special education teacher
  • Justin’s mother Lauren, who owns an early intervention agency, Up Wee Grow, Inc.
  • Justin’s father Peter, President of Interboro Insurance Company and Northeast Regional Sales Director of UPC Insurance Company.
  • Joel and Debbie Levine, staunch community advocates for children with autism and parents of Corey, Jamie, and Emily
  • Students from Long Island and Queens.
To date, approximately $980,000 has been raised through this exciting community grass roots event.

“We are proud to say that Alley Oop For Autism is on-track to pass the $1 million mark on March 24th!” Justin exclaims. All proceeds will be donated to The Family Center For Autism based in Garden City and the Anderson Center for Autism.
