Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Car In Carle Place

A man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Carle Place on Thursday morning, police say.

According to authorities, a 52-year-old man was riding a bicycle east on Dow Avenue when he was struck by a 2002 Toyota traveling southbound on Glen Cove Road at 10:11 a.m.

The man suffered head trauma and was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was later pronounced dead by a hospital physician at 11:36 a.m.

The driver of the Toyota, a 61-year-old woman, stayed at the scene. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is continuing. Police say they will identify the man killed once his family is notified.
