Cops Nab Man Who Cooked Meal While Burglarizing Eatery: Police

He was found to have burglarized eight businesses in the Hicksville and Westbury area, police say.

The man who cooked himself a meal while burglarizing a Hicksville restaurant in October was arrested on Tuesday, after authorities say discovered he burglarized several businesses in the area.

According to authorities, Stephan Tirado, 27, of Freeport, burglarized Nelly's Taqueria, a Mexican restaurant located at 356 W Old Country Road in Hicksville, on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Surveillance footage showed the burglar putting on a pair of gloves, turning on the stove and cooking himself a meal, News12 reports.

"The way he handled that pan, man, the dude had some skills," restaurant owner Will Colon told Newsday.

Police say Tirado burglarized or attempted to burglarize 10 businesses. He would enter these businesses by prying open the rear doors or windows and then attempt to remove property, including food, cash and other various business related property.

Authorities say he targeted the following businesses:

  • Oct. 2— Nelly’s Taqueria, 356 W. Old Country Road in Hicksville
  • Oct. 3— Nelly’s Taqueria, 356 W. Old Country Road in Hicksville
  • Oct. 22— Home Depot, 1320 Corporate Drive in Westbury
  • Oct. 22—New York Community Bank, 615 Merrick Ave. in Westbury (Attempt)
  • Oct. 22— Houlihan’s, 725 Merrick Ave. in Westbury
  • Oct. 22— Redtree Radiology, 1570 Old Country Road in Westbury
  • Oct. 28— K&G Store, 650 Stewart Ave. in East Garden City
  • Oct. 29— Wells Fargo, 103 Old Country Road in Westbury
  • Nov. 1— Boston Market, 419 Old Country Road in Westbury (Attempt)
  • Nov. 1— Burger King, 409 Old Country Road in Westbury

Tirado was arrested at 9:25 p.m. in Hempstead following an investigation. He was charged with two counts of third-degree attempted burglary and eight counts of third-degree burglary. He was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
