Fire Breaks Out At Hicksville Senior Housing Complex
Firefighters say the resident was able to help prevent flames from spreading by closing a door.

HICKSVILLE, NY — Firefighters extinguished a blaze at a Town of Oyster Bay senior housing complex in Hicksville.
Around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, the Hicksville Volunteer Fire Department was called for an apartment fire on Newbridge Road. Firefighters found flames in a bathroom of a unit and quickly extinguished the blaze before it could spread. Firefighters credited an alert resident for helping prevent further damage when she closed the bathroom door before evacuating.
All building residents were evacuated and firefighters ventilated the smoke. The bathroom sustained heavy damage and the resident was evaluated by medical personnel.

Arrangements have been made for alternative housing for the tenant, officials said. The East Meadow Fire Department was also called to the scene for a ladder truck.
