Large India Day Parade Will March Through Hicksville In August

The parade, celebrating the 75th anniversary of India's independence, is set for Aug. 9.

HICKSVILLE, NY — In celebration of India's 75th anniversary of independence, IDP USA will hold its 12th annual India Day parade in Hicksville this year.

Planned for Aug. 7, the parade will celebrate India's independence from the British Empire. The parade will start at Patel Brothers on South Broadway in Hicksville, and march north, then turn east onto East Barclay Street, and end in front of Asa Mai Temple.

“Since this is the 75th landmark year of India’s Independence, the parade and accompanying events will proudly celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (Diamond Jubilee year of India’s Independence) in ways that promise to surpass the previous parades and attract participation by thousands more people, both South Asians and Americans,” said Vimal Goyal, president of IDP USA.

Goyal said that the parade will be led by film stars, entertainers and dignitaries. Following the parade, there will be a celebration near the temple, which will feature food, entertainment, carnival games and more.
