Man Burglarized 19 Nassau Businesses: Police

A Westbury man was arrested on Friday for committing 19 burglaries in Nassau County, police say.

According to authorities, Michael Matthews, 58, would enter businesses by breaking the glass doors and stealing an undisclosed amount of cash over the course of a year. He was arrested at his home at 4:30 p.m. following an investigation.

Police say he responsible for the following burglaries:

• March 15, 2017 – Pizza Cucina, located at 625 Old Country Road, Westbury
• Aug. 30, 2017 - Gloria’s Restaurant and Bakery, located at 219 Post Avenue, Westbury
• Sept. 10, 2017 – The Potato Field, located at 588 Old Country Road, Westbury
• Sept. 17, 2017 Kisoro Asian Fusion and Sushi, located at 227 Old Country Road, Carle Place
• Oct. 9, 2017 – The Butcher Place, located at 530 Westbury Avenue, Carle Place
• Oct. 29, 2017 – The Health Nut, located at 92 Old Country Road, Westbury
• Oct. 30, 2017 – 99 Cent Mall, located at 209 Voice Road, Carle Place
• Nov. 29, 2017 – Ace Handicraft, located at 314 Hempstead Turnpike, West Hempstead
• Dec. 10, 2017- Old Country Wine and Liquor, located at 27 Old Country Road, Carle Place
• Dec. 26, 2017 – Real Taste Bakery, located at 17 S. Franklin Street, Hempstead
• Jan. 21– El Mofongo, located at 684 Fulton Street, Hempstead
• Jan. 22– Soup Exchange, located at 945 Franklin Avenue, Garden City
• Jan. 25– Salone Gino, located at 1595 Taylor Avenue, Westbury
• Jan. 29– Genesis Soul Food, located at 143 N. Franklin Avenue, Hempstead
• Feb. 7– Tres Reyes Deli, located at 755 Old Country Road, Westbury
• Feb. 9– Scuba Network, located at 245 Old Country Road, Carle Place
• Feb. 15– Bonaventure Tuxedo, located at 134 E. Jericho Turnpike, Mineola
• Feb. 15– 2nd Street Gourmet Deli & Catering, located at 188 2nd Street, Mineola
• Feb. 21 – The Sandwich Shop, located at 1610 Old Country Road, Westbury

Matthews was charged with six counts of third-degree burglary. He will be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
