Man Impersonated Police Officer During Traffic Stop In Carle Place: Police
The man possessed a fake police shield at the time of his arrest, police say.

A Westbury man was arrested after police say he impersonated a police officer during a traffic stop he initiated on Saturday afternoon in Carle Place.
According to authorities, Anthony Scott, 37, was driving a grey 2010 Chevy Silverado pickup truck when he attempted to pull over a driver on the Northern State Parkway by activating a red and blue flashing light on the dashboard at 4:15 p.m.
Police say the driver exited the parkway and stopped at a red light on Glen Cove Road, near Old Country Road, when Scott exited his vehicle and approached the driver's vehicle. Scott displayed a gold and blue-colored shield along with a black-colored handgun and demanded that the man exit his vehicle, police say.

The man immediately fled the scene in his vehicle and alerted authorities.
Scott was located in his vehicle on Wetherill Road in Garden City a short time later and was placed under arrest. Police say they recovered the fake police shied and did not recover a firearm. No injuries were reported.

Scott was charged with criminal impersonation and second-degree menacing. He will be arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
