Man Shot In Both Arms During New Cassel Burglary
A man faces an attempted murder charge for the Saturday night incident.

A man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he shot a man twice during a burglary in New Cassel on Saturday night.
According to authorities, a 23-year-old man was walking into a friend's Carleton Street home when he was pushed through the front door by Patrick Spruill, 28, of New Cassel, at 9:10 p.m. Police say Spruill displayed a handgun and ordered the man and the resident of the home, 25-year-old Wesley Garcia, to lie on the floor and empty their pockets.
The 23-year-old man then removed a knife from his jacket and attempted to ward off Spruill, however Spruill shot him twice, once in each arm, in response, police say.

The 23-year-old was able to run from the residence.
An investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Spruill. He was charged wth second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and a disorderly conduct warrant. He will be arraigned when medically practical.

Garcia, following the discovery of a firearm, narcotics and marijuana in the home, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
