Man Steals $80,000 Check From Mail, Deposits In Personal Account: PD

HICKSVILLE, NY — A Suffolk County man is accused of stealing a woman's U.S. Treasury check for almost $80,000, Nassau County police said.

An investigation revealed Justin Meneses, 25, of Hauppauge, intercepted, altered and deposited the check into his personal bank account, police said.

The incident happened in late March in Hicksville, police said.

Meneses was arrested on June 5 at the 8th Precinct in Bethpage. He is charged with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and first-degree identity theft. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at District Court in Hempstead.
