Week in Review: Teachers Union and District Remain Deadlocked

School District, Teachers Union Remain Deadlocked
A lengthy negotiation session has failed to bring about an agreement between the Kings Park Classroom Teachers Association and the Kings Park Central School District. Β Β 

According to attorney John Gross, of Ingerman Smith, counsel for the school district, both sides met on March 6, along with a new third party negotiator in a process called superconcilliation. According to Gross, a deal was thought to be in the works, but then stalled. Four points remained at issue, with salary structure, according to Gross, being the biggest concern.Β 

3-Car Crash Sends 1 Person to the Hospital
The Kings Park fire department responded to a three-car accident on Thursday that sent one person to the hospital.
The accident occurred just before noon at the intersection of 25A and Ashland Drive. According to officials on the scene, the driver of one of the vehicles was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center with minor injuries.Β 

Kings Park Grad Selected for LAX All-Conference Team
Thomas Fallon, of Kings Park is one of five Farmingdale State University students to be selected for the Skyline All-Conference Team.

Roadwork on Pulaski and Old Commack Road to be Completed by Year-End
Roadwork will continue until the end of the year on Pulaski Road and Old Commack Road, which has some residents tacking on extra commuting time.Β 

The work, which began last summer, is intended to repair sidewalks, curbs and pavement as well as address drainage problems, according to Bill Hillman, Chief Engineer for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works.Β The road is to be repaved as well.

Smithtown Town Board Approves New Admin Contract
Smithtown Town Board haveΒ approved a new contract that will give the town's department heads and administrators an average annual raise of 1 percent per year.Β 

Smithtown town board approved a retroactive agreement forΒ 2011- 2014 that laid out a 0 percent raise in 2011, 1 percent raise for 2012, 1.5 percent raise for 2013 and 1.5 percent raise for 2014 for the Smithtown Administrators Guild at their April 25 meeting.Β The contract was previously approved by the 30 members of the guild, which includes department heads, administrators, deputy clerks and similar positions.Β

14 Kings Park student athletes took place in nine different sports.Β
