2 Amityville Student-Musician Earn All-County Honors

Hundreds of students auditioned for placement into these ensembles, the district said.

AMITYVILLE, NY — Two Amityville students are being recognized for their musical abilities.

The Amityville School District announced that Melissa Fearrington and Madeline Shingleton, of Amityville Memorial High School, were selected to represent the district as members of various 2022 NYSCAME/Suffolk All-County Honors Ensembles this year.

Melissa was selected as a member of the NYSCAME/Suffolk All-County Chorus and Madeline was selected as a member of the NYSCAME/Suffolk All-County Orchestra. Additionally, she was seated as the principal cellist (first chair) of the All-County Orchestra.

Hundreds of students auditioned for placement into these ensembles last spring at NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festivals throughout Suffolk County, the district said. Students were chosen to participate based on their proficiency score achieved at the festival and teacher recommendations.

The All-County festival showcased the top 11th- and 12th grade students of all Suffolk County music programs.
