AMITYVILLE, NY — Amityville residents have spoken.
The Amityville School District's 2023 to 2024 proposed budget of $112,729,127.66 with a 3.05 percent tax levy increase has passed with 672 votes for "yes" and 426 votes for "no".
Residents also decided on Proposition No. 2, which would allow the District to use $2.5 million in capital reserve funds to construct heating and ventilation, plumbing, electrical and bathroom renovations at Edmund W. Miles Middle School.

There would be no tax impact associated with the $2.5 million expenditure since the money already exists in the reserve fund, its website said.
The proposition passed with 649 votes for "yes" and 454 votes for "no".

For the race of Board of Elections, six candidates vyed for three open seats:
- Lisa Johnson won with 593 votes against Megan Messmann, who obtained 464 votes.
- Carol Seehof won with 584 votes against Deborah Magnani, who obtained 460 votes.
- Leslie Kretz won with 593 votes against Maria Troche, who obtained 402 votes.
