Cuomo: Housing Extension Approved for Sandy Victims

The Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) Program is extended in New York for an additional 14 days.

A new extension of a 14-day extension to the Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program was approved on Thursday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), at the request of the State of New York, has approved the 14-day extension to the TSA program, which allows eligible survivors from Hurricane Sandy who can't return to their homes to stay in participating hotels or motels, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement about this extension released on February 21.

The new checkout date for those in the TSA program is March 10, 2013. FEMA will call applicants eligible for the extension to notify them of the new checkout date.

“The Transitional Sheltering Assistance program provides those affected by Sandy who still can't return to their homes with necessary housing,” Governor Cuomo said in the release.

“The State will continue to request such aid from FEMA as long as New Yorkers need it,” he added.

This is a short-term program that places families in hotels while they work toward a longer-term housing plan.
