Did Losing Lindy’s Winter Break Affect Your Vacation Plans?
Readers share their thoughts about Lindenhurst schools being open all last week due to the closures after Sandy.

Did you miss having the kids home this past week? Did you have to change any vacation plans after Lindenhurst schools announced they would be open during Winter Break? Or are you glad the kids were in school?
Lindenhurst Patch asked on Facebook last week how losing a week of planned school vacation in February affected people, and we got a ton of responses from local parents.

Cheryl Denecke: "I feel like this week is a waste, and it should be taken away, and we get out earlier at the end of the year. My husband’s coworker told him originally the schools had this week because the schools had coal to heat the schools, and they needed a week to clear it all and get the schools ready for the Spring. I don’t think our schools have coal anymore, so it’s really not needed."
Lisa Schinasi: "I feel the same way Cheryl. Just like kids are off from school for the Summers because they had to work the fields for harvest. I'm all for vacation time, but it really has become a real big money pit trying to find where to put kids during all these breaks while both parents have to work."

Denise Botiglione: "I knew in advance about the schools being open so I adjusted accordingly."
Barbara Mirra Fox: "No vacation plans here. I think the kids are off a little too much, and agree with Cheryl and Lisa."
Cathy Steganius-Masie: "The schools have had this vacation since I attended school, so I feel bad the kids have to go this week."
Sue Fiore: "Too much time off!"
Jennifer Porter S: "My daughter’s loving it. No homework, mostly all fun and less half [the] kids in her class."
Lori Marvin-Fitzgibbon: "I love when my kids are home and no schedules!"
Vivian Betancur-Macaluso: "Ridiculous how a week was taken from them. Especially those that were misplaced during Hurricane Sandy. It’s not as if they enjoyed those days or weeks without power or other problems. It was such a natural disaster, and not to still give us the week - we all need a break - even us teachers!"
Nadine Intagliata Canzoneri: "Should get rid of this week as vacation without shortening the year. They keep saying United States is behind scholastically, so it serves little purpose and [is] disruptive to learning."
Maryhelen Goodman: "I wish the kids would have less time off during the year and an earlier Summer break. I'd rather have them start in May not July like it is now - okay, end of June, but might as well be July."
Michelle Greenberg Bornemann: "I like that idea too, Maryhelen. Only thing is teachers and children need a break. School is a lot of work and can be exhausting."
