Veterans Tell Lindenhurst Students Their Stories

Three men from Army, Marines visit high school social studies classes on Veterans Day.

Lindenhurst High School hosted a panel of three veterans representing the United States Army and Marines in recognition of Veterans Day, speaking with the school’s social studies classes.

Master Sgt. Peter Brasile, an operations sergeant who served in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq with the U.S. Army was among the speakers. Also representing the U.S. Army was Joe Ingino, who was a perimeter tower guard during the Vietnam War and now is the president of the Nassau County chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America. U.S. Marine aviator Bill Walden also served his country during the Vietnam War.

The men shared their experiences of enlisting, serving and returning home from war.

The panel, organized by peer leaders, met with classes throughout the school day and answered questions.

“We were excited to have the opportunity to share our stories with the students of Lindenhurst,” Ingino said. “Year after year they show us their appreciation and their respect and that means a great deal to us.”
