Harding Students Celebrate Earth Day

The Lindenhurst elementary students learn about recycling on Earth Day 2013.

Harding Avenue Elementary School students in Alyssa Quinn’s class participated in a special lesson to celebrate Earth Day.

Quinn and special education teacher Christine Lambert collaborated together for the activity, whose objective was to teach the children that each day should be considered Earth Day.

The lesson began with students donning a special hand-made Earth Day t-shirt with the student’s hand prints.

The next part of the lesson was a hands-on, multi-sensory program using SMART Board technology. It taught students to be responsible for the planet by sorting and recycling cans, paper and plastics.

The lesson then moved out to a grassy area of the playground, where students put recycling to action by picking up the recyclable items and placing them in the appropriate bins for reusing.
