Hurricane Sandy One-Year Event Next Tuesday
Remembrance will recall the past year of hardship and thank those who volunteered for their help.
The Village of Lindenhurst and Adopt-A-House will host a one-year remembrance of Hurricane Sandy at Village Square Park on Tuesday, October 29.
The event will be held one year to the day that Hurricane Sandy began wreaking havoc with high winds and a tremendous storm surge on the coastlines of Long Island, New York City and New Jersey.
"We would like to take this time to give hope and support to families still in limbo as well as have the families who have come back to their homes provide hope and inspiration to to everyone else," the volunteer group stated on a Facebook event page.
The ceremony will run less than a half-hour at the park, with a 15-minute photo montage of the last year and a short song with candle lightings. Necklaces to help raise awareness of those families still not back home yet will be handed out as well.
The event will also honor the many organizations that helped in the days, weeks and months following the storm including Camp Bulldog, Lindy Manpower, Sandy Support Massapequa Style, Lindy Alum Looking To Help your Hometown, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Lindenhurst Community Cares, Friends of LI: Communities helping communities post-Sandy, M.I.C.K, LI Cares, Project Hope and others.
The ceremony starts at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair for the event.
