Is Lindenhurst Prepared For Another Hurricane Season?
We asked readers what they thought.

Even though many in the area are still dealing with the devastation wrought by Sandy, June marked the beginning of the 2013 hurricane season and the National Hurricane Center is calling for an average to above-average season of tropical cyclones. Experts are advising people to be prepared.
County executives from Nassau and Suffolk joined top officials of the American Red Cross in a press conference at the beginning of the month to tell residents what they've learned since Sandy and the improvements that have been made since then.
"There have been a series of related events that point to climate change impacting our weather," said Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone. "That appears to be increasing our likelihood of getting hit again."

"I almost am but the better question, are the towns, counties, LIPA, National Grid, gas stations?" said Michele Insinga on Facebook. "Are insurance companies or adjusters ready from flooding to damaged roofs?"
Insinga also pointed out that damage from the last storm left the South Shore vulnerable.
"Is the breach still open? (Regardless of what anyone tells u during a hurricane it will cause extra flooding.) Were the dunes and other damage repaired? Did they take any other precautions to minimize storm surge? If not no matter how prepared we (residents) are the same chaos and damage will happen again," she said.
"Where doomed," said Theresa Calabria-Giacopelli . "Especially if there are bigger, stronger storms then Sandy."
Joe Cheperuk Sr. was also pessimistic that Lindenhurst was ready.
"You will see a lot more houses taken by the next big one," said Cheperuk Sr. "Mark my words."
Others, like Angela Vanleuvan Simpson, are still rebuilding and dread another big storm.
"If my home gets hit again it will be over," said Simpson. "My family will be homeless! I have not completed to rebuild from the last storm and still have half a home, no first floor, no kitchen or anything only second floor and still living out of boxes and ordering takeout! If another storm hits us bad again we will be in a shelter!"
