Lindenhurst School District Budget Vote: What You Need To Know

Here's what you need to know before you cast your ballot in Lindenhurst.

LINDENHURST, NY — Lindenhurst residents will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2023 to 2024 school budget vote and school board candidate election.

The Lindenhurst Union Free School District's proposed budget of $185,302,256 and a tax levy increase of 2.30 percent.

This increase falls under the district’s “allowable” tax cap of 2.53 percent, its website said.

The proposed budget allocates $1,500,000 in the transfer to capital line to complete any number of capital projects such as district-wide toilet and bathroom reconstruction and district-wide sidewalk and parking lot renovations.

Security vestibules (man traps) at Albany Avenue, Alleghany Avenue, Daniel Street and district-wide surveillance cameras — capital projects funded through the Smart Schools Bond — will be at no cost to the taxpayer.

Seven candidates will also run for four of the following positions:

  • Gabrielle Anzalone (incumbent) is being challenged by Patricia Enright
  • Michael J. DiGiuseppe (incumbent) is running unopposed
  • Claire McKeon will run against Janine Egan, which position was held by Kevin R. Garbe
  • Josephine Martino (incumbent) is being challenged by Jacquelyn Herig

Residents will also vote on whether the board of education should increase the maximum income for eligibility for both the Real Property Tax Exemption for Persons with Disabilities and Limited Incomes, and the Real Property Tax Exemption for Persons Age 65 and Older up to $58,400, the maximum allowable amount under New York State Law.

Polling will take place at Albany Avenue, Daniel Street, Harding Avenue, and William Rall elementary schools, and Lindenhurst Middle School from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
