Village Seeks Funds to Reconstruct Tennis Courts

The Village Board of Trustees is seeking funds from New York State to reconstruct the tennis courts at the Village Park in Lindenhurst.

The Board approved a resolution at the   at  that would allow the Village to file an application to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

According to the approved resolution this would be in accordance with the Consolidated Funding Application Parks Grant, and it'd be for an amount of $87,320 on a 50/50 shared basis between the Village and NYS.

Only if it's approved would the Village would start the process on this project, Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane said.

"This is just a starting point," he said, noting refreshing the tennis courts is something the Village has wanted to do for a while, but has held off on looking into until now.

Other Business
The Board also gave the green light to Massapequa-based Shore 2 Shore Wireless, Incorporated, to make some modifications to the telecommunications tower at the Department of Public Works yard on Albany Avenue.

The company had previously submitted a building permit application that the Board now approved, and the tower lessee, Crown Communications, authorized the work. It wasn't immediately clear what the work was going to be.

Several payments totaling $28,446.75 to Middle Island-based Thomas H. Gannon and Sons, Incorporated, for the  of various roads around the Village were also approved.

Locations included:

• School Street, from Hoffman Avenue to John Street.
• North Broadway, from Dekalb to Wellwood Avenues.
• North Fourth Street, from Dekalb to New York Avenues.
• North Sixth Street, from Dekalb to Harrington Avenues.
• North Fourth Street, from Hoffman to New York Avenues.
• North Sixth Street, from Hoffman to Harrington Avenues.
• North Seventh Street, from Hoffman to New York Avenues.
• North Ninth Street, from Hoffman to New York Avenues.
• North Broadway, from Hoffman to Dekalb Avenues.

In addition, payments totaling $67,974.12 to Farmingdale-based  for  several roads in the Village were approved.

Locations included:

• North Wellwood Avenue, from John Street North to Harrington Avenue.
• North Indiana Avenue, from Charles Street South to Byrd Street.

Payments to both companies will be appropriated from NYS CHIPS Funds.

Partial payment to Patchogue-based Stout Construction in the amount of $78,970 for work completed through August 10 on the  (Charles J. Cowan Marina). Funding is being appropriated from the Village General Fund Budget, Marina repair and Maintenance by way of insurance recovery.

The Village is expecting these final repairs to the docks, which were   during , to be done by the middle of this month.

The Lindenhurst Remembers Committee and the Village have also set the annual  remembrance ceremony for next , .

The Village has also given the go-ahead to the Lindenhurst Historical Society to sponsor a at the Old Railroad Depot (Irmisch Park) at South Broadway and South Third Street.

It'll take place on Saturday, , from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it's free to residents.

According to Village Trustee and Society Member Maryann Weckerle, the reenactment will mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and will be presented by the 119th New York Historical Association.

It'll be a reenactment of a recruiting rally, which will include a campfire and the firing of muskets using black powder only and no ammunition. It'll also be overseen by the Villager Fire Marshal for safety.
