UPDATED: City Council Agenda Oct 1: New Pharmacy, Indiana Pump Station, Grass Plugs

• Resolution Granting Waiver of Off-Street Parking Requirements Re:

Premises 629 East Park Avenue, (street floor), Long Beach, New York.

Re: Pharmacy

• Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into an Agreement for the reconstruction of the Indiana Avenue Pump Station.

Legislative Memo: The Indiana Avenue Pump Station, which is an integral part of the City’s sanitary sewer system, was flooded and damaged beyond repair and is currently not operational. Phase I of this project, engineering design services, was awarded pursuant to Resolution No. 38/13, duly adopted on March 19th. Phase II, reconstruction, is required at this time. This is the third pump station that has required rehabilitation as a result of flooding and damage caused by Superstorm Sandy. In order to maintain sewage flow and continue providing services, the City has had to bypass the facilities. Funding is being requested through public assistance grant monies from FEMA.

The following items were added to the agenda on Tuesday: 

• Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into an Agreement for 

the Rehabilitation of the Long Beach Recreation Basketball Courts. 

Legislative Memo: These basketball courts were severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy. After touring the City, it was the desire of both Long Beach native Billy Crystal and former WNBA star Nancy Lieberman to pay for the restoration of these basketball courts for the use and enjoyment of all City residents. 

• Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase American Beach 

Grass Plugs. 

Legislative Memo: As everyone is aware, the tidal surge during Superstorm Sandy washed away the beach dunes as well as the beach grass planted in the dunes. The dunes are being restored as designed and permitted by the Department of Environmental Conservation and in order to maintain the structural integrity of the dunes, it is necessary to plant new beach grass plugs. These will be planted by both City employees and volunteers. 

• Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase an Ambulance for 

the City’s Fire Department. 

Legislative Memo: During Superstorm Sandy, the City’s fleet of ambulances sustained damage like so many other vehicles throughout the City. In order to insure the best possible emergency medical care for our residents, it is necessary to purchase a new primary ambulance at this time.
