West End Civic Meeting, Continuing Ed Registration on Tap

Here's what's going on in Long Beach this week:
- Continuing Ed. Registration: Long Beach School District’s Continuing Education Program will hold in-person registration Monday and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Long Beach Middle School, 239 Lido Blvd. in Lido Beach. Participants may also register by mail by filling out the registration form found in the course offering booklet, or online at www.lbeach.org/schools/continuing_education. For information call 516-897-2206 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Classes begin Sept. 30.
- Council Meeting: The Long Beach City Council will hold a regular meeting at City Hall, at 1 W. Chester St., at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Civic Meeting: West End Neighbors Civic Association will hold a regular monthly meeting at the West End Community Center, at 80 Maryland Ave., at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The guest speaker is City Manager Jack Schnirman.
- Holiday: The Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins at sundown Wednesday.
- Movie Night: The West Holme Movie Night will show “Finding Nemo” at Lafayette Boulevard beach at 8 p.m. Saturday.
- Scholarship Fundraiser: The Jaime Whelan Foundation will hold its sixth annual fundraiser at the Beach House, 906 W. Beech St., from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event is $50 per person and includes an open bar, appetizers and raffle drawing. The foundation raises funds to award scholarships to worthy graduates of the Long Beach Catholic Regional School who will attend the Sacred Heart Academy, Jaime’s alma mater.
