The fine levied against owners and managers of buildings with 25 units or more was increased from $250 to $1,000 per day, and now the city is considering extending the fines to smaller dwellings.
At the Sept. 3 meeting council members will be asked to vote on another code change that would extend the same penalties for owners of multiple-family buildings with less than 25 units.

The proposals come after the city issued a management company of a seven-story apartment building on Monroe Boulevard six summonses after city officials alleged the company neglected to make necessary repairs after Hurricane Sandy, including non-functioning elevators.
