Long Beach Race Honors Favorite Son, FDNY Firefighter Who Died On 9/11

LONG BEACH, NY — Registration is underway for a race in Long Beach that honors a first responder who died on 9/11.
The Michael Kiefer Swim-Paddle-Run takes place Sunday, July 27 on Riverside Blvd Beach.
Kiefer was an FDNY firefighter who gave his life on September 11th. He was also a Long Beach lifeguard who loved life and the ocean, the city of Long Beach said.

This event is held in his memory and is meant to be a challenging workout to honor Michael’s dedication and perseverance.
Sign-up starts at 7:30 a.m. with the race getting underway at 8:45 a.m.

The race begins with a 150-yard run to the swim entry point; a 400-yard ocean swim, with a land finish to the transition area; a half-mile paddle board segment with a land finish to the transition; and one a half-mile run on the beach.
You must be 16 years or older to participate.
Various awards will be handed including to the top three male and female finishers, the top three male and female firefighters, the top three male and female lifeguard and the top three teams.
