Community Rebuilding Meeting, Showers Coming

Here's what's happening in Long Beach on Thursday: 

  • Community Rebuild Meeting: An informational meeting of the NY Rising Community Reconstruction Program will be held at the Long Beach Library, 111 West Park Ave., at 7 p.m. Thursday. The state-sponsored program is one of several storm recovery initiatives that were established to provide additional rebuilding and revitalization assistance to communities severely damaged by Hurricanes Sandy and Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, and has allocated $25 million for planning in the most affected communities. (The focus of the meeting is not about residential rebuilding).
  • Weather: Forecasters predict a 70 percent chance of showers in Long Beach on Thursday. Temps are expected to climb into the low-60s.
  • Coming Up: On Friday, the City of Long Beach will hold a grand reopening of the Magnolia Senior-Community Center, 650 Magnolia Blvd., at 10 a.m. Thursday.
