'True Heroes,' Long Beach Lifeguards, Firefighters Rescue More Than 8 People In 2 Hours

More than eight people were saved on Thursday night, the Long Beach Fire Department said.

LONG BEACH, NY — Lifeguards in Long Beach made multiple water rescues on Thursday evening, the City of Long Beach Fire Department said on Facebook.

In all, lifeguards went into the water five times within two hours to save people.

Starting at 6:14 p.m., three victims were by the lifeguard patrol at the Laurelton Boulevard Beach. They were treated by the local EMS.

At 6:36 p.m., the fire department's water rescue unit responded for a person who fell from a jetski.

At 7 p.m., two people were rescued from the Monroe Boulevard Beach. One victim was brought to an area hospital in stable condition, the Long Beach Fire Department said.

Thirty-six minutes later, a kayaker in distress at Maryland Avenue and the Reynolds Channel. The kayaker was brought to an area dock and required no medical attention.

At 7:58 p.m., multiple victims, who were close to drowning, were rescued by the Long Beach Fire Department using their jetskis. One victim was taken to an area hospital.

More than eight lives were saved in less than two hours. Fire officials said their department and the Long Beach Lifeguard Patrol were "true heroes" last night.
