Gonslaves Honors Merrick Girl Scout

Allison Hendrix was a recipient of a the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Allison Hendrix, a Merrick Girl Scout who won the Girl Scout Gold Award, was recently honored by Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves.

Gonslaves presented Hendrix with a citation during a Merrick Association of Girl Scouts ceremony at Fayette Elementary School in honor of her achievement.

For her project, Hendrix wanted to increase communication between the older and younger generations.

In an effort to do so, she conducted three workshops with Girl Scouts and women from the American Legion Auxiliary.

At these workshops, the girls and women cooked, played games and made lap blankets for a veteran’s hospital. Hendrix also organized an event at a local nursing home where a Girl Scout troop performed a talent show for the residents.

“Allison’s effort to connect our younger and older generations is a wonderful project,”  Gonsalves said. “It is a great opportunity for both generations to learn from each other while at the same time accomplishing something for our veterans and seniors. She is a great role model for our future generations and her project will have a lasting effect on the community.”
