Historical Society of the Merricks to Host Independence Day Reading and Bus Tour

The event will include the reading of the Declaration of Independence and a bus tour of the Merricks.


The Historical Society of the Merricks will host a reading of the Declaration of Independence and bus tour of the area on Thursday. 

Ever since the bi-centennial year in which the Historical Society of the Merricks was formed, the group has gathered together to read aloud every word of the Declaration.

This year the reading will be led by by the President of the Historical Society, Professor Lawrence Garfinkel.

After the reading residents can enjoy a free bus tour of the Merricks with a narration by Judge Jerry Medowar. It will be on a first come first serve basis. 

The event will take place at 10 am on Thursday at the Merrick Gazebo located  off of Merrick Avenue, north of the Long Island Rail Road  Station.
