Nassau Man Tried To Shoot 2 Others, But Gun Did Not Fire: Police
Police say an argument turned violent, and a misfiring gun saved two people from being shot.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A Roosevelt man was arrested after police say he tried to shoot two different people during an argument, but his gun did not fire.
According to police, an argument started between a 56-year-old man and 52-year-old Calvin Badger at a home in Roosevelt around 10:40 p.m. The argument turned physical, and police say Badger pulled out a loaded handgun, pointed it at the man and and pulled the trigger. However, police say the gun did not fire.
A second person, a 35-year-old man who lived in the building, heard the argument and tried to intervene, police said. Police say Badger pointed the gun at the second man and pulled the trigger, but it again failed to fire. Badger then fled, police said.

Officers were called to the scene and began investigating. Police say they saw a suspicious man nearby, and the officers stopped him and identified him as Badger. Police say the officers saw the butt of a handgun in his waist band, and he threw the gun into a nearby storm drain. Police say the officers placed Badger under arrest without incident, and were able to recover the handgun from the drain.
Badger is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree attempted assault, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, first- and second-degree criminal contempt, two counts of second-degree menacing and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.
