LONG ISLAND, NY — One year ago, the highway was filled with scores of cars as thousands of supporters turned out for a "MAGA-Gras" Trump parade across Long Island — and on Sunday, the group that organized the event will be hitting the road again to take the same route with a new caravan.

The group will gather at 8 a.m. and leave at 10 a.m., heading once again from Seaford to Montauk along Sunrise Highway, said Shawn Farash, founder of the Long Island Loud Majority group.

"We're doing it because times are very rough right now for many and they want to demonstrate patriotism," he said. "It's the one-year anniversary of the caravan last year, and we want to bring the same sense of patriotism and American pride to Long Island that we brought last year, in an effort to restore hope in what 'We The People' can accomplish when we work together.

Farash, 30, organized many caravans last year, including a Trump parade on the North Fork, an event that drew crowds of supporters, and a parade that brought food to needy communities and headed to New York City.

Supporters shared their photos and sentiments on social media last year. "The event is bringing America back," said John Maffeo of Massapequa.

Not everyone applauded last year's event: Leon Goodman, who completed a 137 mile walk from New York City to Montauk to protest police brutality, said he saw the caravan on his way back home and urged support of now-President Joe Biden. Goodman died recently; this weekend also marks the one-year anniversary of his walk.

Despite Trump's loss in the election, the Long Island Loud Majority group has remained intact and continues to plan events with a focus on patriotism, Farash said.
